MAYBANK JUNIOR GOLF - NATIONAL CAMP 2014 Sanjay Mukudan and Rosalinda Binti Ruhaizad earn priceless spots to play at Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 Pro Am

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, December 11 - The yearly gathering of junior golfers from all over of Malaysia; organized by the Malaysian Golf Association and supported by Maybank; successfully completed their intensive training stint at the Maybank Junior Golf - National Camp 2014 today. Over the period of the camp, Sanjay Mukudan (Handicap 11), aged 15 from Perak, was awarded for the best boy while Rosalinda Binti Ruhaizad (Handicap 30) aged 12 from Johor, received the honour for the best girl. Both winners will be seen playing alongside the professionals from the Asian Tour and European Tour at the Pro-Am tournament at the upcoming Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 this coming February.

 

The three-day intensive training camp, known as the Maybank Junior Golf- National Camp, saw 50 of the nation’s brightest young golf talents congregate at Amverton Cove Golf and Island Resort from December 9th to 11th, 2014.

 

The specially devised programme is aimed at imparting an advanced level of golfing technique, mental preparation and course management skills to the youngsters between 12 to 16 years of age to instill good sportsmanship. Importance was also placed on equipping these juniors with adequate knowledge on golf rules and etiquette to take their game to the next level.

 

The training sessions at the camp included lessons on short game elements such as pitching, chipping as well as improving the juniors’ distance off the tees and accuracy on their fairway shots. Fitness and rules of the game were also incorporated into the programme and all players were given the opportunity to put their new learned skills into practice on the golf course with a nine (9) hole tournament.

 

Maybank Foundation’s CEO, En Shahril Azuar Jimin, who was present at the closing ceremony said. “The Maybank Junior Golf -National Camp is one of our key initiatives in the development of golf among our young and we’re pleased to be working with MGA once again to reach out to new budding talents. Year on year this program has proven to be successful in training and exposing our young talent to the challenges and skills needed to compete locally and internationally, and we are confident that we will see local champions emerge in due course from this initiative. Both Sanjay Mukudan and Rosalinda Binti Ruhaizad who have come out tops today will be awarded with a priceless experience to play alongside the professionals at the Pro-Am event of the Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 ” he said.

 

The success of the camp was with the assistance of four (4) local professional coaches namely V. Gunalen, Lim Siew Ai, Wan Zainuddin and Chris Holden. These professional coaches took time off their busy coaching schedules to impart their knowledge and experience with the nation’s future batch of champions.
