19 January 2009 Kuala Lumpur, 19 January 2009 – After day one
of the National Qualifying Tournament at Saujana Golf and Country Club, R
.Nachimutu is at the top of the scoreboard and is aiming to stay in the lead
tomorrow to take his place in the Maybank Malaysian Open 2009 next month.
“My putting worked well today and I
scored seven birdies,” said Nachimutu after his round of 70 on the Palm Course.
Looking ahead to tomorrow he
continued, “I will keep focused on my putting as the greens are very
undulating. I am going to try my very best tomorrow as I really want to take
part in Maybank Malaysian Open this year.”
Five places are up for grabs at the
48th edition of the Maybank Malaysian Open so tomorrow will be a
tough day for the field of local players who want to join some of the best
players in the world for the US$2million prize purse event from 12-15th
February.
Tying for second place on 71 after
their first round is Anis Helmi and P. Paramaswaran.
“My game was good today but not
excellent,” said Helmi. “I need to work on hitting more greens tomorrow and
avoid scoring bogeys. I played in the Malaysian Open as an amateur in 2005 and
I am keen to make it again so hopefully I can play well tomorrow.”
Tee off for the final day of
competition begins at 7.30am with media invited to attend and meet the winners
over refreshments after their round.
