Martin Kaymer

At 26, Kaymer is currently ranked the world number 1 with three individual titles next to his name in 2010 alone. Kaymer achieved this feat by recently finishing runner up in the WGC - Accenture Match Play. He had started 2011 by claiming his third Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship title in four years and simultaneously replacing Tiger Woods as number two in the Official World Golf Rankings. Kaymer started his 2010 season on a high with a win at the Abu Dhabi Golf Championship in January by a mere one-shot over England’s Ian Poulter. He continued his form by bagging the US PGA Championship trophy in August for his first major championship after defeating America’s Bubba Watson in a three-hole playoff. Kaymer was also a member of the winning European Ryder Cup team and he subsequently went on to win the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship at St. Andrews. Kaymer became the first player since Tiger Woods in 2006 to win three successive tournaments in a year and the first European to achieve this feat since Nick Faldo in 1989.

Louis Oosthuizen

28-year old Louis Oosthuizen is currently ranked 23rd in the Official World Golf Ranking. He won the 2010 British Open in St. Andrews last July. Oosthuizen entered the tournament ranked 54th at the time and made only one cut in eight major championship appearances.

His astounding victory in the British Open earned him a nomination for the 2011 Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award. He also became the fourth South African to lift the Claret Jug, after Bobby Locke, Gary Player and Ernie Els.

As an amateur player, Oosthuizen paired with fellow countryman, Charl Schwartzel, to win the 2000 World Junior Team Championship and he subsequently won the 2002 Irish Amateur Open Stroke Play Championship before turning pro in 2003 at the age of 19.

Since then, Oosthuizen has proven himself to be a talent to watch out for, as witnessed by his win at the 2010 British Open, and more recently at the 2011 African Open, winning his third European Tour title.

Charl Schwartzel

Charl Schwartzel represented South Africa in the 2002 Eisenhower Trophy as an amateur. He turned pro that same year at the age of 18 and became the third youngest player then to secure his European Tour card through qualifying school. He is also the second player to win three consecutive Sunshine Tour Order of Merit titles between 2005 and 2007. In 2005, he won his first European Tour title, the Dunhill Championship.

Schwartzel shone in 2010 with two consecutive European Tour wins, the African Open and Joburg Open. These two victories propelled him into the Top 50 of the Official World Golf Ranking. He successfully retained the Joberg Open title in 2011. Currently rank in the Official World Golf Ranking, he will be making his PGA Tour debut this year as well as his first appearance at the Maybank Malaysian Open 2011.

Alvaro Quiros (ESP)

Alvaro Quiros (ESP) Six European Tour wins including the Dubai World Championship 2011 before his 29th birthday tell the story of this brilliant young golfer. Quiros is one of the star names at this year's Maybank Malaysian Open and he will surely attract plenty of followers and support as he plays the course at KLGCC.

Matteo Manassero (ITA)

Matteo Manassero (ITA) stunning performance at the 2011 Maybank Malaysian Open made him the youngest ever winner in the tournament's history. If he is to repeat his success this year he has another top class field to overcome but that will be of little fear to a young man who has enjoyed several sucesses on the European Tour already even though he is yet to celebrate his 22nd birthday. A firm crowd favourite, here is a player with a career in front of him where anything is possible.
