Exciting times at Maybank Malaysian Open 2014

Kuala Lumpur, April 7, 2014: The Maybank Malaysian Open has always been more than a golf tournament.

With a long history of exciting finishes, great atmosphere and fantastic crowd support, the Maybank Malaysian Open has rightly earned its place as one of the leading national opens in this region.

But, it is not all about golf, as Maybank and event promoter GlobalOne have worked tirelessly to ensure there is something for everyone.

The Maybank Malaysian Open 2014 will be held at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC) from April 17-20 and offers total prize money of US$2.75 million.

There will be 156 professional golfers from around the world including 22 Malaysians, who will give it their all to be crowned champion.

Among the stars who are set to light up the course are former world number one Lee Westwood, Major winner Louis Oosthuizen and former Malaysian Open champions Matteo Manassero and Thongchai Jaidee.

Top local professional Nicholas Fung and leading amateur Gavin Kyle Green will lead the Malaysian charge this year.

While the professionals battle it out as part of the Asian Tour’s Order of Merit and the European Tour’s Race To Dubai, spectators will be able to enjoy various engaging activities and promotions by the event sponsors and tournament partners at the Maybank Malaysian Open.

Exciting events lined up for the week are a host of regular offerings at the Exhibition Village and a fully air-conditioned Public Hospitality and an expanded grandstand with a premier viewing deck.

One of the events which takes place on April 15 is the Star Experience for Charity (SEFC), which gives fans and corporate figures a chance of getting up close and personal with some stars of this year’s Maybank Malaysian Open 2014, while doing their part for charity.

The event is one of Maybank Foundation’s efforts in support of the United nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in line with Maybank’s mission to humanise financial services through its various activities.

Meanwhile, in a recent poll by Times magazine, Petaling Jaya and George Town made it into top 10 list of “selfie cities”, proving how much Malaysians love taking pictures of themselves.

With that in mind, there will be a selfie competition and one can take a selfie at either the East Course driving range or next to the grandstand, where the best selfie photo with the correct winning score of the Maybank Malaysian Open 2014 Champion will win two return business class tickets to Dubai and two hospitality passes to watch the DP World Championship in Dubai.

If you feel like winning some prizes and want to test your golfing skills, there are onsite challenges you could try as well.

The Maybank Foundation putting challenge, which offers daily prizes and takes place at the Exhibition Village, where the tournament’s sponsors will have their booths.

Another challenge is the Ricoh simulator where attractive prizes await those who hit a hole in one. If there is more than one person who can do it, there will be a tie breaker on April 20. There are also prizes for nearest to the pin, which will be decided on the last day.

There will also be an exhibition by trickshot master entertainer Peter Johncke who will take golf entertainment to another level.

A distinct tournament attraction is to watch the players at the East Course driving range and see how far they can hit.

Alternatively, you could just kickback and enjoy the Carlsberg beer garden where you can have some ice cold beer or try your luck with some dart games.

If luxury cars are your thing, a stunning display of the latest Jaguar seductive models which will be on display at the east course.

Tickets for Maybank Malaysian Open 2014 can be purchased now from www.ticketpro.com.my, priced at RM10 per day for Thursday and Friday, RM20 per day for Saturday and Sunday or RM40 for a Season Ticket (all four days) or also at the entrance of the event.

For senior citizens (55 and above), it is only RM5 for a daily ticket or RM20 for a season pass while children under 16 can watch the Maybank Malaysian Open 2014 for free.
