Inaugural Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 Medal set to take flight

Kuala Lumpur, 7 November 2014: To mark Maybank’s tenth (10th) Anniversary as title sponsor of the world class Asian Tour and European Tour co-sanctioned event, the Maybank Malaysian Open 2015 is setting the stage with the introduction of the Maybank Malaysian Open Medal (MMO Medal) tournament in collaboration with nine (9) notable golf clubs nationwide, majority with the history of hosting this leading national Open.

Through this challenge, four lucky golfers will be ultimately be given get a chance to play at the Pro-Am tournament alongside international stars golfers headlining the Maybank Malaysian Open 2015.

These members will go through the qualifying rounds with emerging champions of the A, B, C or Ladies category at participating golf clubs’ medal to receive the golden ticket to the MMO Medal, that will take place at the prestigious Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club this coming January.

36 Club medal winners from the participating clubs will then compete at the MMO Medal to determine the lucky four whom will then earn their spot at the Pro-Am tournament.

Eligibility for Medals A, B, C and Ladies are according to their respective handicaps.

Participating golf clubs include former Malaysian Open and present Maybank Malaysian Open hosts Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club, Royal Selangor Golf Club, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, Saujana Golf and Country Club, Templer Park Country Club, Penang Golf Club, Royal Perak Golf Club, Ayer Keroh Golf Club and Sutera Harbour Golf Club, which has yet to host the oldest national open.

Not only will Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club house the MMO Medal, they will also be hosting the Maybank Malaysian Open for 2015 for the seventh time.

Nine (9)-time Malaysian Open host, Saujana Golf and Country Club will also be one of the nine (9) clubs participating in the MMO Medal and it provides club members a chance to reminisce on the glory of the Maybank Malaysian Open challenges that had taken part on their beautiful golf course.

Maybank Malaysian Open 2008 host, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club is also in the mix of golf clubs participating in the MMO Medal.

The first ever host of the Malaysian Open, the Royal Selangor Golf Club, too is participating in the MMO Medal and should a member from this club emerge as one of the winners, it would definitely be a historical moment indeed.

The conditions of eligibility for the MMO Medals are as follows:

1) Each of the 9 clubs will provide 4 winners each from the following categories of their club medal:

  • Medal A – Handicap 0-12
  • Medal B – Handicap 13-18
  • Medal C – Handicap 19-24
  • Ladies – Handicap 1-36

2) A total of 36 participants will then compete in the MMO Medal.

3) The overall best Nett from each category (A, B, C and Ladies) will be eligible to play in the Pro-Am.

4) Participating golf clubs are as follows:

  • Central Malaysia – Royal Selangor Golf Club, Kota Permai Golf and Country Club, Saujana Golf and Country Club and Templer Park Country Club.
  • North Malaysia – Penang Golf Club and Royal Perak Golf Club.
  • South Malaysia – Ayer Keroh Golf Club.
  • East Malaysia – Sutera Harbour Golf Club.
